Eddie Wilcox Obituary

With our heartfelt condolences, we the management and staff of Community Mortuary, LLC announces the transition of Mr. Eddie “Dean” Wilcox, 74 of Tifton, Ga on March 31, 2023 at WellStar in Cobb County, Ga. Eddie Dean Wilcox affectionately known as "Dean", was born on July 17, 1948 to the late Mrs. Addie Lee Wilcox and Mr. Kinsey Wilcox in Brookfield, Georgia. He was the father of his only child, a daughter, Ms. Carro Lartion Thomas (Shon), who he affectionately called “Doll.” As a little girl, Dean often greeted Shon with a song and “true to form” was still singing to her in their Friday evening jam sessions up until his passing.  Mr. Wilcox entered his eternal rest on, Friday, March 31, 2023, in Austell, Georgia.

As a teenager, Dean joined the Job Corp in Kentucky.  He was a musician, who song and played the keyboard, electric guitar, and drums. It was through his love of music and membership in a band that he added the prefix, “Sweet,” to his name and started to refer to himself as “Sweet Dean.” He also had a great love of the outdoors and enjoyed fishing. and hunting.  Dean worked in the home renovation industry in Atlanta and often told stories of the different areas of Atlanta in which he had worked and the prominent individuals who he had come to know. Even when he was away from Atlanta, Dean was always a fan of the home team and was a faithful fan of the Atlanta Falcons, the Atlanta Braves, and the University of Georgia.

After decades in Atlanta, he relocated to Niagara Falls in the early nineties.  He returned to Georgia after the passing of his beloved mother in February 2022.  After his mother’s passing, Dean decided to remain in Tifton where he enjoyed talking to, laughing with, and spending time with his siblings and other family members and friends.  Dean could be counted on to be the family historian and to accurately recall each family member’s birthday and age – to their liking or dismay.

In September 2022, he moved to Cobb County, Georgia where he continued to build memories with his daughter, grandson, and great grandson.  Until his passing, Dean enjoyed telling jokes and laughing during his visits with his daughter and son, playing checks with his grandson and great grandson, watching sports during his down time and listening to music and singing with his daughter.

Dean was preceded in death by his mother and father, Ms. Addie Wilcox and Mr. Kinsey Wilcox and brothers, Mr. Larry (Kenzette) Wilcox, Mr. Kenneth (Beverly) Wilcox, and Mr. Edward Jackson.

Sweet Dean leaves to cherish and to celebrate his memory, a devoted daughter, Ms. Carro  Lartion Thomas, “Daddy’s Girl,” a loving and faithful grandson, Dequavious “Quavi” (Ashanteh) Daniels and two great-grandchildren, Noah (“The Prince”) and Ariyah, all of Atlanta, brothers, Mr. Donald Wilcox and Mr. Ronald Wilcox, sisters, Ms. Peggy Wilcox, Mrs. Carol (Earl) Hunter, and Ms. Kenzy Wilcox , all of Tifton and Mrs. Diane (Lucious) Coney of Charlotte, North Carolina, bonus children, Mr. Henry Hutchins, Ms. Sheila Hutchins, Ms. Renita Phinazee, Ms. Mia Halland, Ms. Deirdre Dorsey, and Ms. Felicia Conley, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and other relatives and friends.
