With our most sincere condolences, the management and staff announces the transition of Mr. Willie Fred “Nump” Mims, Sr., 87 on Wednesday, February 15, 2023 at Atrium Health Navicent in Macon, Ga. Wille Mims was born on March 2, 1935, to Levi Stinchcomb and Cassie Lene Payne Roberts in Chauncey, Dodge County, Georgia. Willie was raised by his grandparents, Mrs. Mary Belle (Betsy) Sanders Payne-Mims, “Grannie” and Deacon Sam “De-Pap” Mims, Sr.
Willie attended school in the Dodge County Public School System. Willie completed the 10th grade and then went into the work force to support his family. Willie worked numerous jobs, but found his passion in the lumberjack, “pulpwood” industry. Willie started his own pulpwood business, and taught many others in the craft for many years, earning a reputation as an expert lumberjack.
Willie loved his family. He possessed a no-nonsense, delightful, humorous, and cheerful spirit. He was known as “Doc Mims” to many because he expressed and shared many natural remedies for healing the body. He could make you laugh on a day you wanted to cry. He could and would love you in spite of the way you treated him. He opened his heart and arms to everyone, treating them with respect, and he didn’t hold back speaking truth and wisdom into the life of everyone. Family meant everything to Willie, and he meant everything to his family. At an early age, he was member of Harpers Chapel, in Chauncey, Georgia. Later in life, he joined I Hope Church of God Apostolic in Tifton, Georgia.
Willie was united in marriage to Mrs. Alice Pearl Richardson on May 20, 1955, and this union yielded seven children: Otto Mims, Willie Mims, Jr., Tommy James “TJ” Mims Sr., Patricia Ann Mims, Elton Mims, Rozzelle Brown, and Vanessa Mims.
Willie was preceded in death by his father, Levi Stinchcomb; his mother, Cassie Lene Payne Roberts; his daughter, Patricia Ann Mims; and his sisters and brothers.
Willie leaves to cherish his memories his wife Alice Pearl; sons, Otto (Martha Revill-Boston), Willie Jr. (Kelly Bennett), Tommy James “TJ” Sr. (Tracy), and Elton; daughters, Rozzelle (Jonathan), and Vanessa (Casey King); grandchildren, Tommy James Mims "TJ" Jr., LaTracy Shaday Mims, Kandis Brown, Jonathan Brown, Jr., Sasha Samara King, Malika Bell, and Kenija Bell; great grandchildren, Nizyian Mims, Tristan Mims, Tianna Mims, Journee Mims, and Jakobi Brown; and a host of nieces, nephews, family, and friends.
